Do employers #exploit #candidates who have been retrenched from their last job? Is the South African job force being lured into a hashtag#sweatshop? In the 2nd quarter of 2018 in #southafrica, available jobs declined by a whopping 69,000 according to EWN. In the mining sector 2000 people lost their jobs and in manufacturing 13 000 people lost their jobs. The #construction sector was also hit hard with 1000’s of workers falling victim to South Africa’s #failingeconomy. These numbers make it an “employers market” so to say. They have a chance to rid themselves of unwanted #personnel and also pick and choose who gets employed. Many #employers prey on the fact that there are tens of thousands (conservative figure) of job seekers who are desperate for work. These desperate job seekers will take anything to get themselves into a position to feed their families. Employers obviously know this. They also know that the job seeker cannot assert his right to an acceptable salary because there will be someone else next in the line who will accept that deflated salary. Frugal employers / Desperate job seekers are accelerating the dwindling spiral of decay. I have had some of my retrenched candidates accept offers up to half of what they were earning before. This is called EXPLOITATION!
