Sometimes life serves you bitter food, rough deals or lemons as some like to call it. The truth is that it’s not what life serves you that defines you. It’s how you deal with it that defines you. In South Africa life in general is tough. It has many challenges. The crime rate is one of the highest in the world, our economy is shot and our currency is junk status. We have an unemployment rate is 30% officially but much higher on the ground. I have spoken to business guru’s from other parts of the world and none have given me the advice that is fitting to the South African situation. They just don’t have the correct reality on the conditions in South Africa. The conditions are quite extreme.
The funny thing is that these factors have nothing to do with your success in South Africa. Take my business for instance. We place professionals and specifically executives in positions around South Africa and Africa. It’s been tough these last 2 years but we plugged away at it and kept the belief that “what you put your attention on you will get”.
Our company just signed the largest deal in our 10 year existence which some would say is impossible in this environment. Well let me tell you it’s not. I’m not saying it’s easy, but then again nothing is.
This took lot’s of hard work and lots of set back. LOTS OF SET BACKS as my work colleagues and family can attest to. But we pushed on and through any and every barrier even when it looked impossible to make this go right. My philosophy on this has been “Don’t stop beating that horse until your 110% sure that it’s dead, and then still give it a few more kicks just to make sure.”
Now I’m no business Guru. Not even close. I am a Guru in practicality and resilience though. And that is actually my message here. Be resilient and keep it simple! Never give up even when the odds are stacked formidably against you. There is nothing that can stand up to a persons outright stubbornness, resilience and determination to never give up.
I hope this helps you.
